God’s promise to the Jewish people is not only to bring them back to the land of Israel. His intention toward them is to bring them into relationship with Him, as those who had been scattered return to His purpose for them:

“For I know the plans that I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).

God promises the Jewish people good and not evil as He brings them back to the Promised Land. Truly the Lord’s work in bringing the Jewish people home to Israel brings glory and honor to His Name. The stories below illustrate His faithfulness in restoring the Jewish people, just as He promised centuries ago.

RESTORATION:  GOD'S PROMISE FULFILLED

God is faithful to fulfill His Word to the Jewish people, and as He keeps His promises, His Name is glorified throughout all the earth.  The Lord promised centuries ago through the prophet Obadiah that He would bring the Jewish people back to Israel from Sepharad—Spain and the regions of the world that came under Spanish control:   “The exiles from Jerusalem who are in Sepharad will possess the towns of Restoration God's Promise Fulfilledthe Negev” (Obadiah 20).

The numbers of Jewish people making aliyah—the return to Israel—from Latin America grows year by year.  On a walk through Jerusalem, Tel Aviv, Ashkelon, or any other major city, you will hear Spanish among the country’s mix of languages.

Ezra International in South America partners with the Jewish Agency to provide assistance to families in need.  Earlier this year, the agency’s office in Argentina put us in touch with Ana and Jose, a lovely couple who had lived in Israel for several years and wanted to return there from Buenos Aires.

Ana made aliyah in 2000 and lived in Jerusalem, where she met and married Jose.  The couple started their family in Israel when Ana gave birth to their son.  The family grew a few years later when their daughter was born, but they soon faced a difficult choice.  Their little girl was ill, and they decided to leave Israel for Argentina so their daughter could receive medical treatment there.

The move was a mixed blessing—their daughter began to recover, but they could not afford to move back to Israel.  Although they loved their family in Argentina, Jerusalem was their home, and Jose and Ana knew their children should grow up in Israel.

Moving back to Israel seemed impossible, though, because of financial obligations in Argentina.  Because they had previously made aliyah, the Jewish Agency was unable to help them cover the cost of their airplane tickets.

Ezra International’s representatives in South America came alongside this young family, covering their airfare to Israel.  Ana and Jose returned to Israel from Argentina earlier this year, and our team in Buenos Aires was at the airport to see them off.  The family is now living near Tel Aviv and recently sent us this wonderful letter:

We wanted to tell you that we are well, very excited, and doing many things at once.  Our son is already in kindergarten.  We are buying a refrigerator and an oven, but not yet received them (we are eating pizza and falafel!!!).  Thank you very much again for all the help we received,

Hope to see you soon in our house!

Jose and Ana

This family’s story underscores God’s determination to keep His Word—He will bring His people home, establishing and restoring them in the land He promised to their forefathers.

Brought Home to the Promised Land

Ezra International’s representatives in Russia were glad to partner with Anna and her son Slavik as they prepared to start a new life in Israel.  Slavik attended Jewish secondary school, and as he finished his studies, he decided to move to Israel, the ancient homeland of his forefathers. Anna decided that she and her son should make the move together.  Throughout Slavik’s life, Anna has been close to her son.  The two of them are quite involved in …
Aliyah from Ukraine

When Zhenya and her daughter Nelia telephoned our offices in Ukraine from their new home in Israel, they told us about their wonderful life there.  They live near Haifa, close to the Mediterranean Sea.  Now in Israel for more than two years, they have started a new life there—when Nelia’s young children ask their mother, “When will we go back home to Ukraine?” her reply is always the same:  “This is our home now, and we’re not going back to …
